I had lots of questions when I first thought about using this case. I wondered what the connectors were.. and then what RAID card would accept the connectors. I found no video on YouTube for this case, so I thought once it's all up and running, I'll share it on YouTube for others in the same boat. I hope this video helps your build! :)

  • WOW! Super Rig ya got there brother. Very nice indeed.

  • @rickeyracer44 Thanks mate

  • Isn't it 4 drives per SAS cable? Not 5?

  • @jimmayl1 Indeed it is, my mistake.

  • Also, what codecs are you using in media portal to play your HD and SD content? Thanks again.

  • @antsrealm I use "FFDShow tryouts", however there's a plugin called "SaF" which takes care of all your codec needs.

  • Dude awesome; PLEASE tell me how did you do those titles?

  • Nice setup, I like the HTPC to

    I subscribed

  • @RicoStanfield Q1: Yep the Norco comes with the backplane. Q2: The RAID card has SAS ports only, no SATA ports. You can have 1 to 4 hard drives connected via a single SAS cable. So there's one cable for every row of HDDs in the case. The whole point is cable management and if you would prefer to only work with SATA, then check out the Norco RPC-4020. Pic here: goo (dot) gl (slash) o0xq2 Q3: Windows Home Server (modified w2k3), but would prefer FreeNAS and will be migrating one day soon.

  • Nevermind! You did mention the PSU, it was blocked by the play bar in the video =)

  • I'll use Linux as OS on all hosts (also HTPC, which I still have but obviously isn't streaming now =P) So: fileserver -> HTPC -> amplifier via HDMI -> surround + LED tv. Much like you =)

You didn't mention the OS used on the fileserver. And I'd also like to know which Antec PSU that is.

It doesn't sound loud int his video. I was afraid of that as I've read it was noisy a few times. What's your opinion? Nice work, especially on the cables =)

  • - I am looking at a Highpoint card because the specs on their site list it to be working perfectly with the WD raid edition drives I'll use. I'll have a look at this Areca card too though

    - this time, no raid 5, I'm going for 6

After that's done. I'll rebuild my old 11TB server (which does hold cheap drives) and use that one as backup for the most important data, so the raid6 can die and I'll still have the most important data.
