So, we had fun! It was great to see Hannah and Bouncer again, and to meet Chance! He is such a beautiful boy with a great personality, he is going to be such a fun agility dog!
Aspen has her ups and downs. We still have a long way to go on her teeter. She is just really nervous of it, not the movement so much as the loud bang that the competition teeters make. I have a couple ideas for working on it, but if you have any suggestions on desensitizing her to the sound, please let me know!
We are also having some troubles on her weaves. She used to have pretty solid weaves, hardly ever a pop out. Suddenly at our trial in December she begins popping out at the 10th pole. She has been doing it ever since. It is like she has forgotten that there are two poles left. I really don't know an exact treatment for this, but I have a few ideas of my own, and I remember an article in Cleanrun about it that I will dig out. Again, if there are any suggestions, don't hesitate to let me know!
On the up side, her dogwalk was phenominal! Super fast and confident. She also did a great job on the aframe, she worked on two different ones at different heights and only missed her down contact once. She took to the table and chute like a pro. We have been training the table some and she is getting pretty good at it. You will notice her hesitate in the first clip, that's because I used the wrong command, whoops. Today was also her first time doing a full chute, and I am SO PROUD! Her being the wimp that she is, I thought she would be more hesitant of it, but she is plowing right through, the best chute performance I could ask for!
We still have a long way to go, and this day has reminded me that. So much work yet to be done. She is such a fun girl with a great personality, and I just hope that she will continue to put up with me and keep giving it her all. "

  • What breed is Bouncer? He looks like a newfie, but I sence border collie or pointer...Anyway, great video :)

  • From what I know, he is an aussie mix. Thanks!

  • I always love watching Aspen, you two are such a cool team. Have you tried shaping the teeter/bang noise? Cookies sheets sound like a good idea like Hannah said. They were so cute playing haha gotta love puppy play

  • Thanks so much! We have done the bang it game, but my teeter was just so much smaller and lighter and it didn't make much sound at all. I will work on it more once we build another teeter and get a cookie sheet :P

  • get her to bang the teeter down by herself i did that with mayka and she got better. With keenas teeter i taught her to run it which i put the down end of the teeter on a chair then another chair on the upside and just ran her down it. It worked alot also try to put a cookie sheet under the teeter i will get those measurements for you soon im sorry just been really busy

  • Haha thanks, that's fine. I can't wait to see them!

  • UGH I MUST HAVE BEEN AT FLYBALL!!!

I cant believe I missed you guys and you were right across the street!

    Hannahs new puppy is adorable

  • lol well i meant just for a fun run you know for like 2 'fake' runs haha now me and tyler are going up there maybe in feb. to rent the ring cause i cant go to the Va NADAC, so my mom said she'd take me and tyler up there!(and shes givin me 100$(cause this was part of my christmas so that'll pay for us haha) :)

  • Thanks! Yeah I would have, but you had said that you didn't think anyone would drive you that far for a fun run, so I didn't think you would want to come this far for only an hour or two.

  • We are still going, it is only for Saturday and we are only running jumpers, snooker and gamblers. I would like to just see how the trial works and watch other dogs run the courses too. I am not expecting a whole lot out of it, but I just need to get used to USDAA.

  • you guys did amazingg!! YAYY!! Soo happy about Aspens contacts, she seemed to gain a lot of confidence with her DW. all I can say about the weaves is Bear did that too for the longest time, the only thing that made it better was reps often. I would do at least two 12 pole reps everyday (two of her doing them right I mean). Eventually she got it down.
