Beet harvest in the valley can get wet which can delay harvest somewhat, too hot and the harvest will be suspended until the temperature cools down enough for proper storage. 10-15% of the crop can be harvested in a normal day. About 10% of the crop is usually taken off during the month of September to remove field ends and make openings in preparation for full harvest which can take anywhere from 10-21 days and in some cases longer. Weather is a big factor in harvest length (heat, rain, frost)
These Sugar Beets are processed by American Crystal Sugar Co.

  • @krueg317 Good Guess!

  • how often do you have to rotate the crops

  • @Dragonklaw1 The beets are on a 3 - 4 year rotation with soybeans and wheat.

  • Buy a Ropa or Holmer ! ^^

  • they have been tried and don't work in the sticky, gummy soils we have here. the shoes they use don't work very well with this type of ground.

  • great close-up shots!

  • man that harvester sure gets them clean from right out the damp soil. i guess you need to prevent excess weight and saving room in collectors.

  • is farming like logging ? or do you have a locked buyer ?

  • @snickernute24 sugar beets are starchier but just as sweet. I have tasted both sugar beets have consistency almost like a potatoe

  • who will sign that check then?
