Mel Blanc created the laugh of Woody Woodpecker in HS in Portland. He created the voice in 1941. This is the second WW cartoon. www.portlandwas.com Video MaCk MCfarland using film from The Nyback Collection www.dennisnybackfilms.com

  • It’s a terrible tragedy that John Callahan has passed away. You can help remember him by contributing to his memorial website at johncallahan*people2remember*com

  • Actually, this is Woody's THIRD cartoon appearance-his first appearance being in the Andy Panda short "Knock Knock". (and Mel Blanc voiced him in that short as well)

  • Blanc was Woody in only three cartoons: "Woody Woodpecker" (aka "Cracked Nut"), this one, and the public-domain "Pantry Panic", before he became locked in an exclusive contract with Warners. His successors were Ben Hardaway (who created Woody and, by the way, Bugs Bunny) and Grace Stafford Lantz. (Mel Blanc's "Woody" laugh was used until 1949, and his "Guess Who?" lead-in until 1972!)

  • Mr.callahan is a great free minded cartoonist. Love his cartoons in the papers.
