Oh well, there are some bad habits that I've finally discarded in the midst of the recession; I learned to eat less for months, and shopping at local thrift stores. What's amazing--I've lost 56 pounds this year and feeling GREAT!! even though, some of my neighbors rarely recognize me. ha ha ha

There is a huge difference between 'taxpayer handouts' and investment in culture, education, and entrepreneurial endeavors. You have to write a book before you can sell a book, and few people can take a year off work to do that.

Further the point that I was trying to make is that paying someone is the only criteria for calling them 'employed'. If someone paid me for what I'm currently doing I would be 'employed'. 'Unemployment' is an arbitrary label, and an arbitrary problem.

The only reason their attitudes are 'just fine' is cos they live in America. They will get by. They're very far from poverty, obviously. Unemployment crisis in America - that can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

What we need to do is fix our unemployment system because we have too many kids getting out of school and taking some time off, smoking a bowl in their apartment (or working under the table) when they should be out looking for jobs. I guarantee loads of people receiving unemployment checks are taking little "vacations" and its sickening.

I've struggled with money even when I've had a job, but I've always lived within my means. Now that I'm unemployed, I've cut out all luxury items and changed my spending habits even more. Maybe someday I won't have to worry about money, but you don't know what you're missing, if you've never had it.

I'm not worried. I'm single though. It's not hard to find a job to earn enough money to LIVE on in this country. It may not be what you want or fun, but it's always there.

I agree, but your wrong on 1 thing. NY has problems, NYC just is doing better. Upstate NY (far from NYC) has unemployment and its bad, I have many family and friends there (where I am from, Monroe County) that have been out of work for 1 or more years now. Myself, AZ (Army veteran) going on 2 years.

here in FLORIDA. were the economy is based on tourism, retires & puting people in Prison, even when the economy is supposedly good every summer, when tourists leave businesses layoff. Businesses all ran & owned by a bunch of greedy rednecks are even firing the mexicans they dont even pay minimum wage to & the police are arresting more people then ever on bogus charges, WHY, there lose of revenue frm less property taxes & they get $45,000 a yr per inmate frm your fed taxes...
