Andy Cox (Iowa Central CC) pitched 6.2 effective innings but it went to waste as the Thunder Bay Border Cats scored four runs in the last three innings of play to take the series opener, 4-2 over Alexandria.

The Beetles got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jake Tanis (Mercer) hit an RBI single up the middle to score Marcus Semien (Cal). Beetles career doubles leader Tim Roberson (FGCU) followed with his first two-bagger of the season to put runners on second and third with just one out. Team RBI leader Taylor Davis (Morehead St) brought Tanis across the plate with a sac fly to give Alexandria a 2-0 lead.

That lead would last not even an inning as the Border Cats were able to get two runs off of Cox to chase him from the game. In the top of the eighth, Tanner Nivins swung at the first pitch he saw from Beetles reliever Wes Rich (Montevallo) over the center field fence to give Thunder Bay a lead they wouldnt relinquish.

Drew Erwin (Nicholls St) struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season for the Border Cats. Thunder Bay improves to 7-10 on the year, the Beetles fall to 8-11.
