The port and cylinder position acts as valves but there is an overlap period, so it does effect the intake or you'll never get air/fuel in. Yes the exhaust scavenges but a reverse cone reflects the pressure wave and helps push air and fuel back into the cylinder, If it doesn't do this you can over-scavenge and actually lose unburnt fuel and gas.

@brickwall911 one question: do you have any idea how a 2T motor works and/or how to tune one? Dont sound it. The resonance creates a vacuum in the exhaust pipe ONLY, does not do SHIT to the intake(and to do that, you have to have a carefully tune expansion chamber) and it helps it scavenge the exhaust out. what that does is help a 2T burn less exhaust(because it does not suck back in when you go to compression stroke) therefore you burn more new gas/air mix and create more power

Yes the motor does need some backpressure stock, however if you re-jet the carb you can run it without the muffler. It will burn hotter so I advise mixing a little 2 stroke oil with the gas as well as the oil in the injector tank to prevent excessive wear. Also if you take the bottom bolt out of the exhaust hanger and cut the pipe right you can ride sound legal in the city with muffler attatched then just pull a wire tied around the tip of the exhaust and run open header and gain a few mph.
