Clash of the Titans was a total classic. I think his beasts in that one had real character and performance. I wish he'd kept on making them. But he got sick of being stuck in a dark room animating things while everyone who'd worked on the film had gone off and made another two movies whilst he was still working on one. But he left us with in my opinion the greatest Sci-fi fantasy films of all time.
I was familiar with some of Harryhausen's works, especially the Sinbad film and Clash of the Titans. I admired both a great deal as a young boy. I remember having them on VHs at home and watching them over and over. Now I realized I didn't know about half of all the creatures shown in this collection.
Where is that sabertooth from? And the scene with the elephant wrestling the swamp creature?
The Sabretooth is from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, The Ymir fighting the elephant is from 20 million miles to Earth. Just check amazon, most of his movies are out on DVD.
20 Million Miles to Earth is another movie I haven't even heard about before. I'd like to get it on DVD soon. I bought The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms from amazon, that was great.
The really sad thing about CGI is that it becomes dated almost instantaniously. Stop motion is timeless because there is something psysically there. You rock, Ray!
