dis reveiwer is stoopid

This is a pretty fair review but to truly appreciate kubrick's work you must watch it multiple times
-
I hated this movie when I was 20 y.o
but now (24) I like it....
-
..............I've watched the movie 15 times, and it just get better. but no matter how many times i watch this movie, i always, ALWAYS, feel mindfuck at the end. Thanck for listening.

the first time i watched i was like " D:?" Anyway, i love it because of is freaking awesome. I love the mystery feeling of terror and curiosity that gives you. tht life is so big and so unexplored, the feeling of risk and how little we are in the universe. That freaks me out, but at the same time, it awesome. Anyway, that's my personal reason why i like it. But yes, it takes time and several views to understad it............

All that I can tell you, RaginCanadianCritic, is that if want to understand the images of 2001: a space odyssey you should read the original book. It will make you get the things much clearer, from the purpose/meaning of the Monolith, to the creation of the StarChild in the end.

the book (which is amazing) explains alot and was made first
-
The first monolith was to somehow "help" the apes achieve the next stage of evolution. Then the second monolith, wich was placed on the moon, was to signal human's presence to the superior life form that had placed it there. As soon as they touched it, the monolith signaled a confirmation noise to the so called "aliens" or "Superior life form" to tell them that man has already reached that technological step. The third one was placed near Jupiter.
I think that's what Kubrick wanted. He made it. He threw it out there and let people decipher it for themselves, hate it love it or whatever. And I agree that HAL is absolutely the best part of the movie. BTW, see Dr. Strangelove

@SquantoThePenguin I've actually seen the beginning of Dr. Strangelove and have meant to finish it for a long time. It was awesome from the first twenty mintes I remember

The 'nothing' is not actually nothing(it made my brain hurt the first time i noticed this) but is actually the Monolith(blackness). Not to spoil too much, the astronauts who freakout when they look into it, are shown...the film...Yes thats right, the characters in the movie are actually watching the movie, 2001 A Space Odyssey! "Colonel Sanders! How can we be watching spaceballs? we're still int he middle of making it?!"
Every event is shown in the monoliths perspective of lights which is weird

by nothing I was actually referring to scenes like the opening where it's just long shots of random desert and it takes like three minutes until you get to the apes. or how the intermission lasts for like almost five minutes before you actually see something. those just left me going "seriously, this is doing nothing...because it's nothing."

That's a pretty high rating for someone who didn't understand the movie. I honestly didn't think you would give it above a 5

well i gave it an 8 really more for production and because i think it's not meant to be understood. it's meant to be viewed and reviewed, but it's not something you can just put on a pedestal and say "This is what it means"
