The coach is playing as a starter in NCAA probably knows what he's doing.
Infact the reason you drop the glove is to protect 5 hole stuff off the ice and to catch passes because your stick needs to be covering the ice and your blocker covering the hole created by your post leg.
I would be more concerned about the little more sloppy movements.
But who am I i'm just a goalie coach for the last 4 years and have been playing for 13 years.

@dem0ndslay3r it's not funny it's a waste of money
-
@sniegs11 Actually it isn't. On the stick side, you should have your catcher out in front of your perpendicular to your chest to prevent any of those high passes.

Okay, So from what I've learned from goalie coaches and other goalies, at a sharp angle in the corner to never put your catcher in front of the 5-hole. it leaves a large space where the catcher should've been. It's easy to just do half a butterfly with one leg up on the post and to keep your gloves close to your body.

@dem0ndslay3r i know this is just fail

Some goalies actually DO put their glove in the five hole at the sharp angle on their stickside, but not all. If you think about it, it's not at all a bad idea. You wouldn't want to go down at that angle anyways, and the high glove is not an easy shot from that angle. How many times have you seen a farside goal from way out wide? It's almost exclusively high shortside, five hole, or a squeaker through the side, also shortside.

i think by glove in the five hole he meant when posted up on the blocked side
