Flight Test Mission-11, was the second with the Block IA version of SM-3, and the first IA with a full-capability solid divert and attitude control system. Raytheon is delivering Block IA rounds for operational use on Navy cruisers and destroyers.
the other problem of course is that battleships are dead... there isn't a single one in active duty anymore anywhere in the world. USA kept a few missouri battleships but they have been retired now and are in reserve.
Until the Navy's railgun project produces a working model for combat use it's unlikely that there will be any naval vessel armed with large calibre gun like the old ww2 vessels since missiles have practically replaced them completely for long range ship to ship combat weapon.
on cannon that's next to impossible since the shell and the barrel has to come into contact in order to make sure none of the gunpowder gas escaped during the firing sequence.
on missiles an electromagnet catapult can be used to launch the missile in order to jump start it in higher speed but since most missiles rely on their rocket booster for speed and not the launch platform... the whole point is moot and useless especially considering the catapult will be of significant size.
Is it possible to lesson friction on cannon guns on a battle ship, when missile and cannon are made with high powered electro magnet material. Allowing less friction in between cannon and missile. What would be the degree of shot enhanced accuracy.

Any ideas on this.
