This is a prototype Flyak with hydrofoils blowing by a conventional olymipic style K1. The foils are under water of course, which is why this kayak looks so strange. Capable apparently of a 27 km/h top speed.

  • Looks good - but would it be wise to use a paddle with a longer shaft? Or would that make it impossible to get up to take-off speed?

  • It is a paddle with a longer shaft - required so that the blade still hits the water when it is up on the hydrofoils.

  • awesome stuff, though whitewater would be a bit epic and screw having to roll it

  • This would not work for whitewater as the boat is a K-1. The only part of the foil you might want to use for whitewater would be for front surfing. In any other sort of condition, hydrofoils would be a hazard.

You could roll it though, as the hydrofoils would add weight to the bottom, thus helping to pull you in line as you perform the hip flick.

  • @cali420king Winged Keel... by us aussies :) Ben lexen was the designer... he made lots of things... including a winged skateboard! :)

  • Any idea how this handles on the ocean?

  • i bet that thing is RIDICULOUSLY unstable!!!

  • A paddle shaft that is expandable would be easy to build for this foilyak.

  • Great design. Too much energy wasted by paddle splashes. Needs to have paddles redesigned for this boat.

  • schooners dont race the america's cup. and there was a boat that entered with lots of controversy regarding the foil at the bottom of its keel back in the 90s.

  • Why not mount hydrofoils on a schooner & run it in the America's Cup races?

  • What's that? :D

  • I have been searching to get a small motor in my 17' Kayak and this hidrofoils would be great idea!!

do you have any plans in how to build this and installation pls?
