A novel idea to achieve fine tuning on medieval and ethnic instruments thru an out-patient procedure. This method allows a factor of 5 gain in fine tuning. Can be applied to setars, tars, saaz, sarods, veenas, lutes, ouds, baghlamas and sitars. The method uses a screw-eye, around which the strings are wrapped in a clock-wise manner. Hope you find this helpful.

  • Cyrus jan,

Thank you for your setar videos. They are great to watch. One way to help tuning is to get wittner suzuki fine tuners that are used on the violin. You can put them on the sarpanjeh right before each peg. They are non invasive and can help in fine tuning. They are cheap too (1 or 2 dollars). The screws can cause cracks. I look forward to more vidoes.

  • Sounds great. the torque on the peg would still be high and allow room for problems. I think one big problem is that Persians do not tune their instruments to any reference pitch and constantly tune their instrument up and down to match someone else. With guitars, once the strings are put on and the tuning is kept up for a few days or weeks, the tuning does not change much any more and corrections are very small.

  • In terms of guitars, and other instruments, there are a lot of things that have been implemented. For example, a few degrees in the slope of the sarpanjeh can help in tuning (like the baglma) or even elongating the sarpanjeh so that the sol string doesn't have to be so close to the sheytanak. Anyway, there is a lot of room for improvements if you think about it. Perhaps we'll discuss them little by little.

  • Sounds exciting but I am confused. Maybe you should make a video response to show your points about the angle.

  • Having a finely tuned peg system and not changing the reference up and down would resolve a lot of the tuning issues. I may be wrong.

  • do you recommend a certain model/size/or type? A link would be appreciated and a video would be ideal!

  • BOTH OF THESE ARE GREAT,

    BUT I THINK THE FUTURE

    LIES IN THE "PEGHEDS"

    ("KNILLING" PERFECTION

    PLANETARY PEGS).

  • Google "tuning bead". I achieve the same effect by putting a little paper wad under each string, between the bridge and the tailpiece.

  • Excellent video, interesting explanation.

  • Thanks a lot. I try booth ways yours (screw eye) and the violin finetuners (wittner). In my opinion the violin finetuners are better. Thanks a lot for the explanations. You have great explanatory videos.

  • جالب بود.

    تشکر

  • thanks.very thanks

  • Unfortunately I am not much of a video maker but the angle breaks the strings path and you don't have to use another string to hold the strings down. It's an ineffcient method.
