@ppinkbelly they are right, to add when you scruff your foot going backwards, it will be harder to get to those farther spots on the field when you have those huge moves. FHNSAB '12
In DCI, we "listen to the concrete," if you're scuffing you arent moving as lightly as you should be. Scuffing tends to indicate that you are moving too heavily. Imagine this concrete was actually a grass field, then his feet would be digging into the ground the grass is planted on rather than the tops of the grass blades. In true straight leg style, you want the foot to brush through but not touch the actual dirt. Even in a backwards technique! This is really good for an 11th grade rookie!

Every school has its own technique. Which is cool. But what matters in a drum corps audition is following that corps style.

A season of drum corps will totally change the way you march. The greatest method to learn drum corps style is to march drum corps!

@KH2fanatic2010 Seven Lakes High school and When you Backwards march You typically want high platforms but not so high that you're on your toes

@xCydezx I don't know where you went to highschool, but your platforms should be as far from the ground as possible when marching straight leg.

@Swordblogs Yeah, your feet should graze the grass, not rip it out of the ground. That's our marching style.
