I am in the market for a superior off road vehicle with real towing capacity for an 8K lb boat, water fording ability and decent hauling capacity. I like jeeps but with no cargo space, I can't even carry a couple fish or pull a boat...hope not to offend any jeepers.

touche. just checked the brochure. u r right! its only with the off road package, this has changed since the w163s which had it standard...i rescind everything - pieces of shit! ha ha

Correct me if i am wrong, the new ML's do not have low range as a standard feature.

w163 for the win....
w164 (shown here) ...keep trying...

Beatz,
merc make the most competent off road vehicles in the world (check Merc G wagen or Unimog), admittedly the ML is a bit soft. however, compared to other luxury 'SUVs', the ML is actually good, low range, optional rear diff locks and airsuspenstion to raise the clearance - you could do much worse!

I took my mothers off road. Was great, the deal was if it came back damaged she got my BMW coupe 2005.

Most probably only the Unimog and other such commercial vehicles. I doubt they go and buy £60,000 civilian Merc's to shift military equipment (etc).
The "father" of Mercedes SUVs? Wouldn't that be the much more capable and legendary G-Class?
