I just HAD to let you know.....I spent HOURS and HOURS trying to fix this problem and I was just about to give up...when I found this video....I figured why no try this....I've done everything else......IT WORKED!!!!!! @ProfessorElb Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Essentially, the spacer is just electrical tape TAPED to itself. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The idea is just to make it thick and durable so that it doesn't move around under normal use and so that it holds its shape.
As I recall, I took a piece of tape, taped it to itself a few wraps, then took the roll of electrical tape and wrapped the crap out of it, ensuring it would fit well in the little cut-out where the ribbon goes.
