Pilot Script- "Paper Chasing"


In the pilot episode, we come to know and love the characters. We have Jamie, Jilal, James, Dayna, Wo, and Lil Joe. These six are a match made in somewhere other then heaven. After going through the traumatic experience of losing both parents, they try to hold the family together. Neighbors Wo and Dayna might as well be sister and brother to the rest of the bunch because they never stay away long enough to be missed. We experience life with them, laugh, and relate to them all.

This episode presents us with a normal morning for hardworking big sister Jamie- who is getting the household and those who do have JOBS- ready for work- when James and Wo come up with one of their routine "bright" ideas. This time we can blame the bad influence of the radio instead of something they have conjured up in those wacky brains of theirs. They hear about a contest that can make them some money. "Bring in your most prized sports souvenir and win a grand prize of fifty thousand dollars." They don't have a "prized" possession to their name. What a shame, so being the "entrepreneurs & hustlers" that they think they are, they create one. To do this they take a stash of Jamie's hard earned money to facilitate their plan. There is nothing wrong with stealing Three Thousand Dollars for a good cause or forging a little celebrity signature on something. After losing the contest, they come to find out that Lil Joe has some real big connections. He could have made them "rich" with his autographed basketball from Carmelo Anthony. The only thing, Lil Joe doesn't even know that Carmelo is an NBA star or this six-year-old- know -it --all, would have surely told the world. When James and Wo find out that Lil Joe had the key to their win they try to swap balls with him. Jamie isn't having it. Do they think that they can just get over on the baby of the house like that? So the boys are back in the hole again, selling CDs to whomever they can find. The only two happy campers at this point are older brother Jilal, who doesn't concern himself with anything but women and their kids and neighbor Dayna, who thinks that she may have a shot at becoming an NBA wife. James and Wo have little time to make the money back that they have confiscated before big sis puts them out. Oh, Wo can't get put out. He doesn't even live there. Well, before Wo gets sent home where he really belongs!
