We found four dead Pacific giant octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) at Palmer's Point, Humboldt County, California today, plus we saw a harbor seal eating a fifth one just offshore. These octopus die around the time that their eggs hatch, which is normally in the spring. So hopefully these died after successful hatching and just happened to wash up together. I collected the beaks -- didn't smell too bad... Close-up video by HumboldtOwen using a Nikon Coolpix P3 in an Ikelite housing. Seal video shot with Nikon D90.
