The Dalai Lama held a prayer ceremony in Taiwan on Tuesday, September 1st for victims of last month's typhoon as part of his visit. He led prayers before addressing a crowd of 10,000 at Kaohsiung stadium in the country's south. He arrived on Sunday, August 30th to comfort victims of the island's worst typhoon in 50 years, triggering floods that killed more than 700 people. But the visit has drawn condemnation from the Chinese Commnist Party. The Dalai Lama said he was not in Taiwan for political reasons. [Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]: "The purpose of me being here today is because of the recent typhoon. Almost 500 people lost their lives. The surviving families left behind are grieving, they are devastated, injured and full of sadness." On Monday, a small group of pro-communist demonstrators gathered outside the Dalai Lama's hotel protesting his visit. But many Kaohsiung residents support the trip. [Luo Sheng-yuan, Kaohsiung Resident]: "It doesn't matter whether the evacuees follow his religion or not. His visit here should be meaningful to all of us. It is not about the politics. I think those people are reading too much into it." [Ch'en Hui-chen, Kaohsiung Resident]: "Even if people criticize him the Dalai Lama still loves them. He is very loving, he loves everyone, he does not differentiate - people who hate him, who love him; he loves them all." The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule. He wants the Chinese Communist Party to give Tibetans religious freedom and autonomy.

  • TIME: How is the situation in Tibet?

Dalai Lama: Tibetan spirituality is a very important part of the spirituality of China as a whole, and the preservation of Tibetan culture can enrich China. Millions of Chinese are traditional Buddhists, and many people in China are turning to Tibetan Buddhism.

    His Holiness the Dalai Lama…

  • The Dalai Lama says he wants Tibetan autonomy and political independence. Yet he allows himself to be used as a tool by western powers keen to humiliate China. Between the late 1950s and 1974, he is alleged to have received around $15,000 a month, or $180,000 a year, from the CIA. He has also been, according to the same reporter, remarkably nepotistic, promoting his brothers and their wives to positions of extraordinary power in his fiefdom-in-exile in Dharamsala, northern India.

  • pro demonstrators are from mainland china !

  • 50 Cent CCP Agent, Hehe modern slaves

  • His Phoniness DalAI lAMA's autocratic theocratic rule has been running for 70 yrs under the cloak of democracy with no true freedom/ freedom of speech for his refugees. He and his elite wealthy family is more powerful than all the previous dalai lamas. His wealthy elite family hold high gvt posts and chairties that channel millions of dollars through their hands. They live in HONGKONG, DELHI, USA, etc with business, high jobs, and houses. down with him and his aristocrat looters of OLD tibet.

  • We the taiwaness thanks Dalai Lama Prays for Typhoon Victims in Taiwan.

  • It's so heartwarming to see so many people supporting the Dalai Lama. He is in Taiwan to comfort and pray for the victims but the Communists like to politicised his every moves.

I think the communist felt morally inferior to the Dalai Lama so they politicised everything out of him,but i think people are smart enough to know who is the wolf.

  • HH Dalai lama visit already opposed by some people and all his schedule were under DPP member....he cannot change the routine set by host .......

We are refugee and there are lots of things which we are not used to here..such as language, which is main things to communication and we are not trained to work in disaster area....we flees our homeland to indian, nepal and rest of world to survive.................!

  • was the remaining 200 plus people and there families not important. Have anyone of these monks or the Dalai Lama actully when and help the grieving. The grieving and the devastated were still on there land waiting to be conforted. Or is there prayer meeting to confort all those that do nothing to really help the needy.
