This is a much shorter version of my combination of Tai Chi and Bo Staff spinning that I use for exercise every morning. I usually do this for 30 minutes straight. I try to keep the Tai Chi principles while spinning the staff, being flexible and balanced and mindful of my stance, not necessarily trying to spin as fast as I can. I use as heavy a bo staff as I can.

  • well, first of all, this is a bo staff exercise, which by it's nature would exercise the arms and shoulders more.

But if you keep your knees bent the whole time as in Tai Chi, you will feel it in your legs as well. Also, the twisting motion of the two-hand spins definitely gives some core muscles exercise as well.

I will add more comments and also break this down in further videos to explain what to focus on.

This was an intro vid to see what it looked like and get reactions.

    Thanks!

  • Now, this was very interesting to watch, but does it only exercise the arms, or does it do the legs also with the stances and such? Would a traditional exercise be more effective?

  • in addition, I am focusing on balance and footwork stances and trying to get a 'feel' of my motion and the staff's motion together and how and when to strike. Not sure if that makes sense.

  • It makes perfect sense. I think I'm gonna go ahead and watch the rest of your tutorials and try a similar workout to this. It looks very interesting and I think it'd help. Thanks a ton.

  • I forgot to mention, the main point is that for me this is a workout that I find interesting and fun to do. The more you like doing it, the more likely you are to keep doing it regularly!

Post a response vid of what you , I would love to see it, I need more ideas as well.

    Cheers,

    Ed
