Project READY Water Balloons in Microgravity

Project READY was an after-school program with an Elyria (Ohio) middle school, the Lorain County Urban League, and NASA Glenn Office of Educational Programs. The middle school students in Project READY were challenged to develop microgravity experiments like the NASA WING student program in microgravity science.
The team of middle school students' hypothesis was that the air bubble would be centered in the water balloon in microgravity.
When the experiment is released into free-fall, the experiment feels like there is no gravity. At that time, the surface tension of the balloons pulls them into a round shape which propels them upward off the 'floor' of the chamber.
