@sickreads Do yourself a favor and read "Apostles of Disunion:
Southern Secession Commissioners and the Causes of the Civil War" by Charles B. Dew (himself a self-described "son of the south"). It puts to rest forever the pernicious fallacy that slavery had nothing to do with why the South wanted to secede from the Union after Lincoln's election.

slavery was not the reason why the civil war was fought, cant believe this crap is still being taught as historical fact. history books are written by those who win wars.
