A. J. Hodges began the creation of Hodges Gardens in the 1950's. His land preservation and development skills moved his project from planning into a naturalistic wonder in the northwest piney hills of Louisiana. I remember going to the gardens with my parents every spring and feeling like I had stepped into Eden as we sat at the Easter sunrise services. The gardens have been closed for awhile, but have reopened as Hodges Gardens State Park, after the Hodges Foundation donated it to the state. I hope Louisiana takes this beautiful gem, polishes it, and restores it to it's once brilliant sparkle for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts; I'll make ole A. J. proud.
