  • who`s the music???

  • 1989 track "the sun rising" by a UK band called "The beloved"

  • what railway was it

  • It was a cross-Pennine route from the North east UK to Cumbria, Part of the Stainmoore summit line

  • thank you for sharing this. I'm going to check this out tomorrow. i live in Barnard Castle and i'm fascinated by the 'days of old' I'm only 17 so i don't have any memories of the lines, etc. everytime i find something out it gives me a buzz. thanks for posting!

  • Welcome to the world of Urban Exploration! (Google the phrase, if you're unfamiliar). If you have google earth & zoom out far enough, you can see were they went (lines of bushes/woods usually) Quite a bit remains on this line (stainmoore summit line) if you hunt 'em out. Several more 'boxes & stations (most have fallen/falling down though).

  • Beeching was a criminal

  • Nice vid. I am a signals technician and find this all very sad. Lever frame boxes had so much character. About as much as the people who worked in them. There was always a kettle steaming in the corner and the shine from well-maintained levers. Modern signalling is so dull.

  • @LeamingtonSteve and what the worse is, that they have now found out that he didn't do his sums right either. The whole point was to effectivise the railways. Whilst the lesser rutes were unprofitable, they were only marginally so. However, they fed the main rutes, so cutting them caused a downward spiral in profits, causing yet more unprofitability - quite literally further down the line!

  • @loyndsy "What are they going to do to the pensioners they cant afford to keep so they'll do what they did in the 30's organise a war to reduce the population."

really? we should really leave the e.u we did so well without the money hole called e.u with all that money we give them we could rebuild the country and the railways. such a waste.

  • @w00dsta where did the signalmen take a shit ?

  • im going to go there and nick all that shit now you idiotic cunt.

  • brilliant. it's a shame most places like this get pulled straight down to make way for new developments.

  • This is what happens when we let government get their own way they remove ways of life like the railways were for people, the miners, a community removed from society by government, now this rabble want to do it again, I could see us all having to take our wheelie bins to the tip ourselves. What are they going to do to the pensioners they cant afford to keep so they'll do what they did in the 30's organise a war to reduce the population.

  • Broomielaw used to be my local station, damned Beeching ....
