Bypassing fuses is generally a bad idea, a VERY bad idea.
If you are unwilling to take the risk of damage to your computer and or USB hub and or the circuitry in the wireless receiver, then do not perform this method.

Did this fix tonight, tried everything else, figured it had to be the fuse. Just did solder over it, a dab, and bingo, works fine now. Great job MS...*facepalm*

I soldered it on and it was working for a time (5 minutes) but now my controller just flashes all four of the quarter rings and doesn't respond. What does this mean?

@CommieCat The lights are flashing because it's not connecting to the receiver. You might have a cold solder joint, or something else may have gotten damaged while you were working on it. You might try rebooting, follow the procedure for reconnecting.
