Mardi Gras! Galveston hosted the worlds Largest Umbrella Dance as part of the Uptown Funky Umbrella Brigade this year on opening night. The new Mardi Gras! Galveston was off to a great start, with tens of thousands of revelers gathering in Galveston's Uptown Entertainment District on February 25th, to witness the grand attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Umbrella Dance in history. Over 500 participants pre-registered for the Uptown Funky Umbrella Brigade, and 492 of those participants were included in the final count for the Guinness World Records. Plans have already begun to develop for next year's Uptown Funky Umbrella Brigade. Online registration opens this fall and will be available to all interested groups on the official Mardi Gras! Galveston 2012 site: www.mardigrasgalveston.com. Yaga's Entertainment, Inc. will require all groups to pre-register and encourages more businesses and friends to join the celebrations.
