I have been riding for many years. Riding beyond your abilities can and will kill you. I went down on black ice in the rockies on September 18th. I was only going 35mph and my harley burst into flames. Always dress for the crash dude. Go on a few track days. The Ortega highway claims alot of lives my friend. Be safe. Imagine how your loved ones would feel if you die. Harsh lesson to learn, but I think you learned it. Take care buddy.

now seen on craigslist as adult owned and dropped once

yeah that last curve was looking pretty sketchy up until you lost it. crashes are a good learning experience, granted taht you live to ride another day

I ride this road all the time. That is a total classic spot to crash because that carousel is actually a decreasing radius turn. The crashes usually involve accelerating too much (or not looking way into the turn) and running into the guardrail or after the turn you cannot make the following right hander and go off straight into the mountain. Seen first hand about 5 crashes in that same corner.

I used to ride a R1 before I sold it, now I ride a kawa zzr600. I always just took it easy though. I know my limits and wouldn't dare to take turns like this that fast. I am glad you are o.k. though. It really sucks when to hear another piece of our community has let go. But stay biking, stay safe. I have taken some really high speed turns and nearly wet my pants afterwards, key word is AFTERWARDS, I cannot be nervous while riding, thats when fuck-ups happen.

Did you see him stand it up right before he hit the rail? He freaked out, stood the bike up and braked.
He stopped leaning! Look where you want to go! Bury your eyes in the exit of the turn!! It's the only escape when you come in too hot!!
thanks for all the comments, i'am still riding but way more cautiously now. now i ride a kawi zx14, lowered with extended swingarm. this is mainly my cruise bike now and then i take it to the drag strip. im trying to stay away from leaning that fast but still riding and more careful then ever. ride safe everyone.

It just goes to show that it only takes one little distraction and loss of focus to get yourself into a real bind. Did you break any bones or need surgery? Are you recovered? That is just way too close to having one foot in the grave. Unfortunately, I think we all have to have a close call like that to wake us up to the real danger. Thanks for sharing this and ride safe.

Nope, just a little scratch on my left knee. when the bike drag me it rip through my suit and scrape my knee. I was wearing full 2 piece suit witch save my ankles, knees, back, elbow, and arms. i got up and push my bike to the side with a help of a HD rider. then i ride the bike home with no problem. Thank GOD

update: after this incident i no longer have the rc51, I am into cruiser now and taking it nice, slow and look good on my new Phat Yamaha roadliner. This ride taught me life is too short even for a lil rush. I will still be riding and one day get back to sport on the track.
