Bexley I Am A

Part of the Life Isn't Just About You campaign, this advert was made by young people from Parents Power, an organisation supported by Carers Support Bexley.

As young carers these young people have responsibilities for caring for a disabled family member. They would like you to take a look at their work and find out more about their lives as young carers.

The young people made this advert working with Greenwich & Lewisham Young People's Theatre (GLYPT) and DNR Films. The project was funded by Mediabox, supported by the Department for Children, Schools & Families.

What is a young carer?
A young carer is a young person who has a caring responsibility for someone in their family who has a physical or mental illness, a disability, or an alcohol or drug dependency. They are people who take on responsibilities that you would usually expect an adult to be doing.

There is help out there:
The Life Isn't Just About You project group has been made up of 15 young carers who all belong to different young carer organisations. These organisations are basically groups of young people who are brought together to share ideas to help each other with the struggles we face in life as young carers. We also get to take part in activities and go on trips to give ourselves a break from our caring responsibilities.
