Documentary about the Destination Docklands project and how, thanks to Newham Council's ridiculous attitude, the concert(s) nearly never happened.

... So they had safety concerns, but there were no problems at Houston 2 years earlier and perhaps they could have raised the safety issues at the start of the project, not a few days before the event.

... The delay cost Jarre MILLIONS... and after all the fuss there were merely a couple of arrests for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

... In 4 parts.

  • Its said to still remain because its one of the last relics from Britain's industrial age, anyone thinking of going there should know that security patrol the site, and the hoardings signs state "DANGEROUS STRUCTURE, ASPESTOES PRESENT KEEP OUT"

The Britannia Village now occupies the area to the west.

  • Its true that Spillers Millenium Mills is still there, hidden from view from Silvertown way to the South, but visible across the dock on the North side. the buildings around it have been demolished, as has parts of the main building its self. the Excel Centre now occupies the area used for the crowd, the DLR route out to Beckton also occupies the same area, which is the North bank of the dock. The Flying Angel can be seen on Victoria Dock Road at the beginning of the film, which also remains.

  • Wow, I've never seen this one before. Aware of the concert of course but this was a right little gem of a discovery. Cheers for uploading.

  • Millennium Wharf is still there, I think about this concert every time I see, it and the unfortunately bad whether.

  • Vidéo très intéressante !!!

Merci beaucoup pour ce beau partage

  • Camcorders in them days were still around £1000 to buy. I remember the concert it was also broadcast on radio one, people were asked to bring a radio along to keep in sync with the projections. cant believe it was 22 years ago time passes by so fast as you get older.

  • Haven't seen any 'personal' video footage of this event anywhere.

Too bad it seems like nobody in the audience took their own video recording equipment with them to record this event. Though, camera equipment in those days was primitive. Oh well.

  • How nice of Jarre to mention about the locals of Newham and how he was concerned whether his show would disturb them! It was actually just the opposite.

By the way, his ideas about music and images are just amazing- visual and aural art, I must say.
