@Blaze1145172 Right on. I use fish fertilizer and Palm food on this one. They are pretty slow growers at our northern latitude. Hopefully one day I will see it grow to a decent size.

Haha, Yeah Thats a good one too, Hey, "They Dont Take Cold For An Answer!" - I have this fertilizer that really makes it grow a lot faster, mine is starting to grow like a Banana Plant. Well, maybe not that fast, but faster than my other Needle that I havent fertilized.

@Blaze1145172 I also like to call it "King of the Frost Beaters"

It's easy to forget about the Needle Palm in the PNW for two reasons:
1. Even in its native climate, this isn't exactly the showiest palm. Beautiful in a subtle kind of way, but definitely not dramatic and it still takes quite a while to gain respectable size, even if it's much faster than here.
2. In the SSI climate they're still tiny after nearly a decade. Another decade and this specimen might reach a height of 4-5 feet.
3. No trunk. 'Nuff said.

@KarlBonner1982 Personally I love the shrubby palms. R.hystrix, Sabal minor and any of the smaller hardy bush type or short palms work well with T.fortunei.

I am in 6a and mine look great, of course this is only their first winter here in Missouri...Nice Fertilizer Mix, learn something new everyday.

@Blaze1145172 Nice! A healthy strong growing palm in the Spring and Summer makes for a more cold tolerant palm in the winter.
