Once again, no they don't. They run on the two cores simultaneously. Hence the name, Parallels. And yes you have two systems running, if you launch X11 you can have three systems running. Gets the job done, and runs about as quick as any of them on their own.
It certainly is brilliant, especially for me not having to use more than one machine to do all my development testing.
That way you have twice the overhead. Two full operating systems hogging memory, each with their own independant and redundant background processes and services. "Brillant". And they both run on the same processor at the same time, in different VM's.
I love how everyone creams their pants over macs, and I'd be willing to put money on it that the second mac users read this they'll be outraged that someone could possibly insult their precious "suedo penis" machines
