I am running in the 2009 Democratic Primary to become a Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge. The primary is being held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. My name will appear on the ballot as Stephen G. Pollock. I need you to go to the polls and vote for me.

Attention is often focused on the Presidential primaries and elections. But there are also municipal primaries and elections, in which your vote is just as important. In municipal elections, registered voters elect members of their local government, such as mayors, council people, township supervisors and district judges.

The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court deals with your relationship with your employer, and you and your neighbor's relationships with your local and state government. In employment areas, like workers' compensation and unemployment compensation, I have represented people on both sides of the issue. I've represented injured workers at the Boeing plant; Governor Casey selected me to represent the state workers' insurance fund.

Equally as important, this court deals with government issues like zoning. Whether you or your neighbor can build a pool or deck, or build an addition on your home. What your rights are if you live in a flood plain. The impact that a new development may have on your community. When does the state have the right to take your property through eminent domain? What do they have to pay you for it? These are issues that affect each of you every day

I know these issues well and have been working on them as a practicing lawyer for 32 years. That's why Governor Rendell appointed me to the state planning board. That's why my community has picked me to serve on our local planning commission, which I've chaired for the last five years.

All of these experiences have prepared me to serve on the Commonwealth Court. All of these issues, that are so important in your daily life and that this court regularly addresses, have been my life's work for over three decades.

Don't forget to vote in the judicial primary on May 19th!
