Ringing the three bells at St Cyngar's church, Llangefni, Mon. The bells are a William Blews 3 of 1869 and were at some point fairly recently hung on modern fittings by Eayre & Smith. They have a long draught but go well. Sorry for the darkness, YT has made the video darker than it originally was!

  • What is the method you were ringing? We tend to get stuck for ringers on a Sunday morning and if we can only ring three, this would sound cool. I'm guessing it's Plain Hunt but having never rung it on just three before, can you confirm?

  • it is indeed plain hunt, the only other 3 bell method i've rung is apparently called 'Churchyard Bob' or something similar. You could also ring Shipping Forecast which i don't know but beyond that I'm not sure. I've only rung at 2 threes and these are certainly the best so far!

  • I rang here in 1985, though unfortunately don't remember much about them! They were indeed an early E&S rehang, I have 1982 in my records.

There are loads of things you can ring on 3, just no-one really knows much beyond Original or Stedman.

Shipping Forecast was the first of 4 fantastic methods invented which all have the distinction of a plain course (18 changes) being exactly all 6 changes repeated 3 times. The other methods are Inshore Waters, General Synopsis & Coastal Stations.

  • Thanks, I quite like these bells and 3 bell ringing is much harder than you think! We're currently teaching a few locals to ring so will be going here a bit over the next few months. Now they've rigged up some better lighting I may take another video!

  • God that two is ATROCIOUS!! Its like two bells striking simultaneously!!

  • I like them

  • @timmeh1507 blews don't sound too pleasent do they?

  • I look forward to seeing it, It may well jog something in my memory!

  • Look on Campanophile for details of Shipping Forecast at Middleton, Warwickshire on 27/11/2004. The others are also on Campanophile.

Alternatively you could ring something completely different and try musicbox. More to do with rhythm and bell control - good fun.

See the Youtube video from "Shippingforecast" of bellringing at South Muskham, Notts. for an example.

  • your right, it does get darker!
