The Wardroom had an opportunity to visit Iwo Jima which is now known as Iwo To. It's a volcanic island 650 miles south of Tokyo. It's hallowed grounds for American and Japanese military forces since it was the site of one of the deadliest Pacific land battles during WWII. It's also the location of Joe Rosenthal's iconic photo in which 5 Marines and 1 Navy corpsman raised the American flag on top of Mt. Suribachi. Definitely a site for reverence and solemnity.

  • Yes. You could find spent artillery shells, artifacts in the caves, etc.

  • A very interesting video of Iwo Jima today. It seems to be a very peaceful site. Can one still find battlefield relics walking on the Island? Are the Japanese caves still intact? God bless our Marines who fought and died.
