A Toraja Funeral "Butcher Shop": Sulawesi, Indonesia

When a Toraja person dies, the remains are embalmed for what could be months until the entire family can gather for a big celebration that lasts for days. Villagers and relatives pay condolences, all the sacrifices are butchered. Some is cooked on the spot. The rest divided equally among many villages and nothing is wasted.

A colorful, interesting Torajan rite and I was thrilled that I didn't disgrace myself by throwing up or fainting.... A very unexpected travel "adventure"....

i actually was there and tried to learn about traditions,

before i went to a funeral.

it is important to know the live style and the social connections.

i was kind of shocked too, but i felt the hospitality of the people.

it is their way to do it, and there is nothing wrong with it at all.
