"I am not a geologist!" This is what the Minister for Energy, Kiraitu Murungi has said in the light of increased optimism that the country may soon strike it rich with the discovery of petroleum deposits in Isiolo. Kiraitu says drilling operations that are expected to begin in prospective oil blocks in the Northern block are far from establishing whether there is any oil in the country.
Then get a real "georogist" to tell us what we have.

To the contrary, however, studies suggest that real GDP and the population's standard of living nearly always decline where oil is discovered. Between 1970 and 1993, for example, countries without oil saw their economies grow four times faster than those of countries with oil.

That oil wealth could be a curse seems counterintuitive. When an oil bonanza is discovered in a struggling African country, the instinctive assumption is that it can only be a good thing; that it will result in a rapid improvement in the lives of the people; that suddenly there will be money for hospitals and vaccines and schools and roads; and, even more than that, everyone will be rich.

we do not need "hoil or not" in kenya.

Correct. Kiraitu should tell us how much oil we have and not whether we have oil or not. We know we have oil in North Western Kenya.

stop playing games with us old man. you are trying to score one or two points using oil as a bait. we are not going for it. don't be talking about it, let them thrrill and then we find out if we have hoil. what school did you go to? havard? nooooo. you can pick anyone from the street and he/she can make a better leader than you. you don't make any sense at all. you don't play with an issue that people have vested interest on. shut up if you are not sure we have oil.

After the 28th Kiraitu will tell you there is no oil because there is oil. He is the grand father of all Uncle Dagoberts. His nose is smelling oil and money for siphoning. But I smell a rat. Journalists on your marks and off to the North West. Please keep your cameras running. We must get out the real truth about this oil business. From Kiraitus talking and behaviour I am convinced we have oil in Kenya. Remember the scandal that never was? Kiraitu Wa Murungi, this time you wont bamboozle us.
