The following morning.
I shut the door of my rabbit as I slumped towards Eric's house. I needed to distract myself, or I was literally going to die. It's been 6 days without seeing Anne Marie. 6 agonizing days!
Before I had the chance to knock, Demi answered. "Hey Daniel." she replied with a small smile before it quickly vanished after really seeing me.
Eric came behind her, "Yeah, still no improvement." he told her.
"Well, I'm gonna go. I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked turning around, as her eyes set on him.
"Yeah." he smiled as he pecked her lips gently; By that time I was scratching the back of my head looking away.
"Okay." she smiled back then her eyes turned toward me, "Bye Daniel. Feel.. better." she said hesitating, not knowing if that was the right term before she left and got into her Black Sudan.
"Alright, get in." Eric beckoned as he pushed me into his house. "Sit." he ordered. I effortlessly sat on his couch. "Alright, dude, get a hold of yourself." he said as he stood right in front of me. "You've been such a downer and the pack is getting tired of it."
"I'm sorry." I replied as I looked at him with no expression in my eyes, "I'll stop." I sighed.
"No," he shook his head, "you won't. Not until you see Anne Marie, I get that. But dude, she'll come back. Sooner or later. It's not forever."
I had my head looking down at the carpet, "She never even said good-bye. She didn't tell anyone where she was going or for how long. That to me, seems like a good-bye forever."
"Dude, good-bye's aren't bad. Unless you never say high again. And I know she's coming back."
"Oh, and how would you know? Did she say anything to you?" I asked lifting my head up just enough to see his face.
"No. But I know it. Just by the way she looked at you that day you interrupted our conver-" he stopped, as he froze, before he continued. "The look in her eyes-"
"Wait, what WERE you guys talking about?" I asked him, now suddenly curious as I stood up-right.
"Uh-you see..- we were just- we were talking about school. Yeah, that's it."
"Your lying." I said giving him a face.
"No, I'm not." he replied as he moved his head left to right.
"Oh, then what about math?" I asked.
"Er- the math assignment we had assigned that week, duh." He continued.
"Eric, don't lie to me man." I pleaded.
He hold his composure though, "I'm not."
"Okay, then what were you gonna tell me last night before we met the bloodsuckers?" I asked as it suddenly hit me.
"Oh..uh..Oh- would you look at the time, I gotta get to sleep." He stalled.
I looked over to the clock, "At 6 P.M.?"
"Yeah, you know, Daylight savings is coming and I uh- I wanna be ready."
"Dude..you're so weird." I chuckled, finally laughing in a while.
"I.. it comes with the package." he grinned as I felt his tension vanish.
"Now, you came here to get distracted, right?"
I nodded.
"Let's go hunt for the hell of it." he grimaced.
"Alright." I shrugged as I stood up. "I'm up for it."
If only I would've been warned before hand what I'd encounter that night..
