From our restaurant we looked out over Manger Square to the Herodion, King Herod the Great's summer palace, fortress and mausoleum. It must have been a constant reminder of the cruelty of the Roman occupation to anyone living in and around Bethlehem at the time of Christ. Modern day Bethlehem is overlooked by the illegal settlements that encircle the town, a constant reminder fto those living in Bethlehem today that it is an occupied territory..
