IN THIS SCENE: Dr. Zinn discusses how Woody Guthrie's song "The Ludlow Massacre" drove him to investigate this event for himself.

ABOUT THE FILM: In these turbulent times, Howard Zinn is inspiring a new generation. This acclaimed film looks at the amazing life of the renowned historian, activist and author. Following his early days as a shipyard labor organizer and bombardier in World War II, Zinn became an academic rebel and leader of civil disobedience in a time of institutionalized racism and war. His influential writings shine light on and bring voice to factory workers, immigrant laborers, African Americans, Native Americans and the working poor.

Featuring rare archival materials and interviews with Zinn and colleagues such as Noam Chomsky, You Can't Be Neutral captures the essence of this extraordinary man who has been a catalyst for progressive change for more than 60 years.

Narrated by Matt Damon. Featuring music by Pearl Jam, Woody Guthrie & Billy Bragg!

Amen. I think the lack of class analysis is one of the most distinctive (and contradictory) things defining "libertarian" political philosophy. I really wish they'd call themselves 'propertarians' and stop pretending their ultra-right, individualist screed actually represents 'liberty'. It's not much use trying to explain syndicalism or Marxism to them, since they generally equate statism (e.g. the recent bailouts) with socialism. They're just a ridiculous group overall.

We need a socialist economy on the side of the people and not a Capitalist economy on the side of the Corporation. Supporting Corporations is a Capitalist ideals for Corporation make money and the ideal of Capitalism is to make money and use money to "Solve" our problems. In reality, money doesn't solve all of our problems. Money creates greed and can turn us into zombie consumers who may complain from time to time but end up going back to the malls and just continue buying.

Most people in Capitalist America do not keep the fruits of their own labor. They receive a fraction of it and the bosses receive the rest. Abolish the wage system! Workplace democracy!

But not leftist rhetoric. That's flowing freely here.

Socialism is NOT how this country was set up. In a true Constitutional Republic people have individual rights; there is nothing collective about that. I want to be left alone to make my own decisions, earn and keep the fruits of my own labor and have my shot at life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. THIS we are not allowed to do.

It's a shame that in US there is so much people hating true socialism (bolshevism excluded) and libertarian socialism ideas. Without people fighting and struggling for these ideals the working class would have been totally turned in to mindless slaves without any consiousness of their position in the capitalist hierarchy. But whatever, ideology is not most important thing becouse as long as there will be people fighting for their emancipation for whatever reasons, the struggle will not be lost.
