I hurt my neck very badly doing halasana and it has never recovered. I suggest taking this teacher's advice. I should point out that I had strained my neck helping a friend move prior to doing halasana. Rather than making things better, doing the posture resulted in what may be a permanent or semi permanent injury. It is also important to let your instructor know if you have any kind of injury. Done improperly, yoga can make the injury much worse as it did in my case.

Nice demonstration. Thank you.
Adding a comment about using the breath is also helpful, in getting into and out of Plow Pose, the two moments of the highest risk for injury.
