A growing trend amongst the younger generation is gauge piercing that stretches the earlobe and leaves large holes. Oftentimes, as individuals age or gain employment in certain companies or fields, these piercing cannot be worn. In these circumstances, the earlobe is left with hanging skin and must be repaired. Also, women who wear large, heavy earrings also risk stretching their earlobes; as well as tugging and accidentally pulling at an earring. Some men and/or women may even end up with a tear through the piercing.
At the practice of Ivan Thomas, M.D., F.A.C.S. in Beverly Hills, earlobe repair or ear surgery can help patients regain a more natural-looking earlobe. Repairing the earlobe is said to be a difficult procedure; however, Dr. Thomas has a technique that prevents caving in at the incision. This allows the incision to heal upwards and rise, not sag.
Further information regarding gauge repair is available on Dr. Thomas' website.
