I got to know Mildred very well...She was a dear friend...and a great singer . She always carried herself in a respectful manner.

@ivanberry19 Mildred Howard was between 87 to 89 years old .. the 'actual' age seems to be in question online. Mildred & and fellow singers Odessa Edwards & Evelyn Hardy created the "Gospel Hormoneers" around 1940. Joined later by Willie Mae Newberry, Vera Kolb & Dorothy McGriff the group changed its name to the Gospel Harmonettes. Mildred Howard left the Harmonettes in the 1950s to become a teacher & McGriff, now known as Dorothy Love Coates, became the leader of the group.
