sarmadasco .... All the present Scandinavian Royal Heads' Of State have over the years been invested as Extra Knights or Ladies of the Order of the Garter. Queen Margrethe received this accolade on the 16 May 1979 and was duly installed by HM the Queen on Garter Day in St George's Chapel, Windsor in June the same year.

Have any of the Scandinavian royals been given the Order of the Garter by Queen Elizabeth II? I know that it the highest accolade given by Her Majesty and was wondering if any other royals had it, outside of the UK. They are cousins, through Queen's great grandmother, Queen Alexandra, formerly, Princess Alexandra of Denmark, and with others through Alexandra's sister, Czarina Maria Feodorovna of Russia, not to mention Victoria's progeny, royals from every royal house in Europe. Fascinates me.

I hate to sound like the typical monolingual American, (though I speak 5 languages; English, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian and working on German) but would it be possible, I beg, if the people could be identified in English, or French, as sub-titles?I find it fascinating and congratulate Her Majesty on her 40th Anniversary as Queen, but would like to know who these dazzling figures are. I only got one name, Marie-Chantal, whom I believe is a princess from Scandinavia? Please? Thanks.

@wenglishsal That's the formal chain and medallion of a royal order of chivalry in Denmark, The Order of the Elephant. All the senior royals in Denmark, as well as the kings and queens of other Scandinavian countries have them.

This sound like a bizarre question, but why have all the Royals got Gold chains with Elephants on them??? Is it something to do with longevity?..

Stunning anyway, just being curious, best wishes for all your lovely family in this 40th anniversary year.

And also 60th Anniversary for our beloved Queen Elizabeth 2nd, here in Britain too..
