DISCLAIMER: AggieTV would like to warn you that some of the images in this video may be graphic. We would like to advise viewer precaution.

The coverage of the events of March 4th were intended to be representative of the students that marched and protested throughout the day. AggieTV participated alongside students at this rally with our cameras, to help tell our story --- the student's story.

March 4th 2010 has been the day set for statewide action to defend public education since November of 2009. Although many educational institutes marched to the capitol to make their stories heard, the students and faculty of UC Davis decided to rally a little closer to home. Starting from 11:30AM protesters marched on campus, on streets, and up to the entrance of the Interstate 80. Intersections were occupied and confrontation with law enforcement officers occurred on a number of occasions throughout the day. After a stand off with the police, one arrest was made. However, negotiations were made and the student was released on the agreement that protesters would clear the area and return to campus.

AggieTV would like to thank everyone for all the support these past few months. We hope that you continue to watch our videos!

[Correction from the UC Davis News Service]

The UC Davis News Service requests that we correct three statements made in this video.

1. No Tasers went off. A single Taser was pulled; it malfunctioned and did not fire. The CHP officer pulled it to stop a student who held up a bike as a shield, and butted him with it.

2. The student who was arrested was not tased. Brutally is over the top and plain wrong.

3. Bean bag guns were not deployed.

  • not sure exactly what they were protesting about here, as the video doesn't really explain that. I despise cops, but from what i saw they really did nothing wrong here. They let them protest all they want, but just wouldn't let them on the freeway. You can't protest on the freeway dumbasses, what happens when a mother driving her kids somewhere swerves to save your meaningless life and kills both her and her kids?

  • Citizens have a right to protest, but they also must obey the authority of local government and police officials. Permits must be obtained and demonstrations cannot take place on private or government property without permisison. Advancing into an area where they are not permitted is stupid.

  • @spartan1121 dude, they specifically said it was bc of the increase in student fees. although i agree something should be done, i dont think they did it in a correct manner. i was there that day, and it was bad, they stopped the unitrans system -which is a STUDENT run system. all in all, i feel like ppl needed to vent out frustration, but this was a very poor way to do it. also, the lgbtrc was tagged with really inappropriate things, which is why you see some gay/lesbian/transgender posters

    lololol

  • @ghostfacee death to all disgusting fucking fascist haters

  • death to all disgusting fucking faggot hippies

  • yeah, you know the cops in LA or in Chicago would have started swinging at everything and anything. Cops did their job, the students did theirs (don't know about the highway thing though)

I love it. Props to AggTV for knowing the true role of journalism: without illusions of the non-existing objectivity and speaking truth to power.

  • We need radicalism in our generation, all cannot be solved through a filling of a document. Never settle for less.

  • i dont see what people are freaking out about. the cops handled that situation fairly. what does those people expect when they continued to encroach toward that line of cops. LAME. get over yourselfs.

  • The CHP officers should be commended for their restraint and minimal use of force.

  • newsflash to dirty hippies: chanting "no violence!" as you attempt to strong-arm your way through a police barricade does not somehow cathartically dispel the justification of your impending beatdown
