  • That is correct...the WWII version was the CV-6 and it was broken up for parts in the late '50s.

  • Such a ridiculous waste of the most significant US Navy ship of WW2...for scrap?? The cost to save it was so low ..even by 1959 standards. Ironic it was scrapped same year Halsey died. My father flew a Wildcat and retired as a Commander after years in the Reserves as well. He served on Saratoga CV-3, Hancock CV-19 and Valley Forge CV-45 (plank owner) He's been gone 5 yrs this past week.

  • This may sound stuip, but is there two ships named the USS Enterprise? There is a current one in the navy that is nuclear, and then there was the WW2 one. I assume they built a new one right?
