Several people have asked me how to make the gas can banjo so I made 11 videos, detailing step by step, how to do this, and also how to make a 5-string conversion on a 4 string banjo neck. Thanks to mrjrondeau for commissioning the project..

  • What if my hole in my can is too big for my dowell stick? Do i just use lots of glue to fill the hole or do I use wedges or what?

By the way, I love this.

  • @Josiahjjr Glue is fine.. Wedges are better. Maybe glue the wedges to the dowel stick, that way they snug in tight when you pull up the tail piece screw and won't fall out. Use good old elmer's white glue. It's good as any.. Thanks and good luck with yours. Show it when you finish it.

  • @Josiahjjr The nice thing about wedges is that you can adjust the neck, if you need to, once you get it in, wedge on this side or that, top or bottom.. You know what I mean..

  • Would you make another od these if I sent you the can I want used and money for the parts/labor?

  • @libertylovescience Sorry, I don't make these to order. Maybe some day, after I retire, but right now I've just got way too much to do to be able to do that. I hope I made the how too videos good enough so that other folks can make their own..

  • @techdechcentral Nope. That's why I don't build my own. Eyes aren't good enough for that kind of exacting work.

  • @techdechcentral Nope. Sorry, no extra necks around.

  • @IEJP Seriously.. I've put one together with a metal rod. The metal rod stick out the back a bit more than I wanted, but it still works. You could re-thread the rod and cut some of the rod off, but that gets really complicated, plus stick dowels rather than neck rods are lighter and if you can find an old neck, the banjo will have better balance.. Find an old neck with a dowel stick.

  • @IEJP It's kind of like Eisenhaur said.. IF you want to make an omlet you've got to break a few eggs.. I think Eisenhaur said that...

  • @rpeek well what do i do?

do i risk it and drill a hole?

looks like it could take it
