Canadian actor Michael J Fox has given a rare interview to CTV News. He was in London last night speaking at a fundraising dinner for the Robarts Research Centre at the University of Western Ontario. Fox's foundation has become the largest funder of Parkinsons research in the world. Fox himself has suffered with Parkinsons for over a decade. In an interview with Avis Favaro, he talks about his illness and his efforts to find a cure through a new kind of what he calls "disruptive philanthropy". Here is a portion of the interview. You can catch the full interview on CTV National News with Lisa Laflamme tonight.
I was there. He is my hero and my reason for writing my book on my neurological disease. He is my inspiration and gives me hope. Living with the worlds most painful disease known to medical science has given me so many opportunities and I owe it to Mr Fox. Read his memoir "Lucky Man". If you are a survivor of a disease like me, and down and out, read his book and you will feel better. I have since changed my life and had an epiphony since reading his book. I will forever be a student of Mr Fox
