I make my own cosmetics/soaps, and they always suggest using purified water (you can get it in a drug store, they use it in hospital to rinse medical tools...etc.), because tap water or filtered water contains bacteria and impurities. If made with tap water you will most likely to have the solution that will grow mold sooner than using purified water that is clean of any bacteria or impurities.

instead of leaving my brushes to dry on a towel, can I blowdry them?

@dynamicdancer09 Yes you can but doing that a lot can be a little harsh to your brushes if done a lot .
