Vincent's appearance in this confused me at first...what with the claws and pointed toes. I read on Final Fantasy Wiki that Vincent is in his Galian Beast form in this flashback, and apparently it was the first time he was self-aware while taking this form. When you take it in that context, his shock and utter horror at his altered body make perfect sense. It's probably the only time Vincent has (outwardly) shown any kind of emotion since Hojo screwed around with his body.
