Finish any quilt using the stitch in the ditch method (aka SID) as shown in this two part video series. Managing the bulk of the quilt in a home sewing machine is taught here. It is so important to have a flat surface while you are machine quilting - PLEASE watch my video about that too. See part 1 for preparation of your quilt before quilting it.

Thank you so much for watching my videos!

Hi Sylvia, no, you don't need the gloves or clear thread - you can use your hands and any thread that you like. Those are just my favorites :) ~M

To machine quilt, do you NEED a walking foot? The one I bought which was apparently for my machine doesn't seem to fit at all and I can't move any of my fabric underneath it, let alone how far you've moved it in the centre. I used just a normal foot last time but that was for a table runner so it was quite a small project. Do I need a walking foot for big quilts?

Hi, no, you don't *need* a walking foot - - it just makes it much easier :) I'm sorry your foot doesn't seem to work. Can you take it back or have your dealer look at your machine and see why the foot doesn't fit? They really are worth having, if you can get the right one. I almost never take mine off, I love it that much! Marguerita

whatever walking foot you have, there should be a video on youtube on how to attach it. Once it is attached right, you will be amazed, and you won't have to worry about fabric pinching or feeding unevenly. "-)

were you trying the DIY anthropologie rosette (knotted bedding) from kojodesigns? if so, I'm just curious if you found it easy as a beginner. I've considered starting this project, but I'm a complete beginner :)
